ABOUT TEDxCMU
WHAT IS TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
OUR MISSION
TEDxCMU is Carnegie Mellon's premier platform for sharing transformative ideas. We bring together students, faculty, researchers, and community members to explore groundbreaking concepts that challenge conventional thinking and inspire action.
Through our main conferences, salon events, and ongoing story collection, we create spaces for authentic dialogue about the ideas shaping our world. From artificial intelligence and sustainable design to personal narratives of resilience and innovation, TEDxCMU celebrates the diversity of thought that defines the CMU community.

OUR HISTORY
Since our founding, TEDxCMU has brought hundreds of speakers to our stage, from renowned researchers like Luis von Ahn (founder of Duolingo) and Subra Suresh (former NSF Director) to inspiring students sharing their personal journeys. Each event builds on our tradition of excellence while exploring new formats and themes.
Our annual conferences have explored themes like "Ignite" (2023), examining the spark of innovation, and various salon events throughout the year that dive deep into specific topics—from food culture to technology ethics to artistic expression.
